"Leaving does not always end the abuse."

When we hear the words ‘rape’ or ‘sexual assault’ many of us think of a woman being attacked in a dark alley late at night but for many people sexual abuse can happen behind closed doors within the context of a relationship.

On this evening's Hard Shoulder Ivan discussed leaving a relationship that has become sexually abusive. Sarah Benson CEO of Women's Aid and Anne Keohoe Clinical Psychologist and member of the Psychological Society of Ireland were in studio to discuss.

Why are sex crimes on the rise in Ireland?

Dominique Meehan: "I'm fighting all the time to just be normal"

Four years ago, Dominique Meehan was raped at a gaming conference in Blanchardstown in Dublin.

In 2017 Keith Hearne with an address in Tallaght received a 12 year sentence for rape and false imprisonment.

Dominique joined Susan to tell her story, talk about the dark days and how she’s determined not to give up.
