An elderly woman has died after she was knocked down in a Limerick car park this morning.

The accident happened in the car park of the Ulster Bank in Castletroy, on the main Limerick to Dublin Road, shortly after 10am.

According to sources at the scene, the jeep is believed to have been reversing when it collided with the female pedestrian.

The bank has been closed until further notice and the scene has been sealed off for a forensic examination.
