A woman who decided to bill her husband when he forgets to do household chores has said it has “definitely helped” him remember.
Research suggests that around the world, women still do most of the work around the house.
In Britain, the British Social Attitudes Survey found two thirds of women feel they do more than their fair share of housework.
On Newstalk Breakfast, Jess Wright explained why she took drastic action to remedy the situation.
“I just, like many other wives, got tired of having to pick up after my husband, so I decided to bill him for it,” she said.
“He actually told me he was very neat when we were dating, so it was a surprise for sure.
“I didn’t tell him ahead of time; I just billed an invoice and I just gave it to him.
“He was very surprised but he just caught on eventually.”

On the invoice, Ms Wright had listed each job he should have done himself and billed him for the cost of her labour.
“He left his shirt behind the hamper, I picked it up and put it in there,” she recalled.
“I tallied that up and any other task that he forgot to do - the dish beside the sink or anything like that.
“That’s how I tallied it up and gave him the invoice from there.”
Reaction
Ms Wright added that at first he thought it “kind of odd” but now takes it “fairly well”.
“I would say it definitely helped,” she said.
“Since then, he’s definitely more aware.”
The highest invoice Ms Wright has given her husband was $680.
