On Lunchtime Live, Shane Filan described it as a “big day” and said everyone in the band was “very excited”.

“We did the three shows back at Christmastime,” he explained.

“We just hadn’t played a venue like that in Ireland for so long.

“We’re still talking about it since; how close we got to the fans.”

Filan promised fans it would be a “very spectacular show” for anyone who bought a ticket.

“We’ve been planning this for a while and we’re going through all the ideas,” he said.

“Production wise, we just want it to be the best show ever.

“It’s 25 years of touring and celebrating that; our first tour was in 2001 and we’re going to have little memories coming throughout the whole show.”

He added that Westlife would “throw everything at this”.

“It’s going to be our best one yet,” he said.

“We wanted to start it in Ireland; we’ve planned these shows and held these dates for a very long time, to be honest.

“Ireland is our home and it’s very important to us.”

With that in mind, the band decided to kick it off “where it all started”.

“The Irish fans will get us off to a good start too, so that’s definitely part of it,” he said.

As well as the 25th anniversary tour, An Post have already announced they plan to mark the ocassion with a collection of Westlife stamps, citing "strong" public demand.
