A snow and ice warning remains in effect for Connacht, Donegal, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick.

Met Éireann says it was cold overnight with scattered snow showers, mostly affecting parts of west Munster, Connacht and west Ulster.

This led to accumulations of between 1 to 3 cms in some areas, especially on higher ground.

There is also widespread frost in places this morning, after overnight lows of 0 to -3 degrees celsius.

The day is set to stay cold with a mix of sunny spells and passing heavy showers.

Most of the showers will affect the western half of the country, some of which will be wintry.

But there will be some good sunshine further east, and some showers may reach here later.

Highest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees celsius.

While tonight will see showers mainly affect Atlantic counties, with the odd wintry one.

It is set to be dry and clear elsewhere with some frost and ice.

Lowest temperatures tonight of 0 to 3 degrees, with the coldest across the east and northeast.
