After the one-two punch of Dallas Buyers Club and The Wolf Of Wall Street, McConaughey has kept the quality of his CV very high.

Between the likes of True Detective and Interstellar, his presence is now a sign that the project is one to be taken very seriously, and the same goes for his upcoming Civil War thriller, Free State Of Jones.

From the director of The Hunger Games and Seabiscuit, McConaughey plays the real-life historical figure Newton Knight who fought against the Confederacy in their own back yard.

The movie is due for release in Irish cinemas on May 27th, and the poster was also released this week via the film's official Twitter account.
