Axed Traitors Katelyn Divilly and Eamon O’Keefe have both said they “100%” wanted to be cast as villains in the hit TV series.

The premise of the show is that there are 24 contestants, most of whom are considered to be Faithful and a handful of whom are Traitors.

In each episode, contestants are balloted on who they believe were the Traitors among them.

Yesterday, Katelyn Divilly was banished, after her fellow contestants correctly deduced she was a Traitor.

On Lunchtime Live, Divilly said she was not surprised to get the chop.

“In fairness, the faithful did a brilliant job and I know I mentioned this in one of the social media posts but when you’re trying to play a character that you aren’t actually in your own self identity, I think that people are actually hardwired to pick up on that, that you’re not being yourself,” she explained.

“I think they were really good at rooting that out.”

Divilly continued that in real life she is “definitely not afraid to stand up for myself”.

“I can definitely be direct when I need to be and I’m sure you saw some of that in the conclave shots,” she added.

“For example, I’m very bubbly, very cheery; I connect with people easily, I have loads and loads of friends.

“But I actually found it very hard to connect with people in there because I knew I was withholding such a big secret.”

Despite no longer being on the show, Divilly said she is still “100%” glad she was cast as a Traitor.

“I wanted to do it all,” she said.

“I wanted to wear the cloak, I wanted a bit of chaos, I wanted a bit of high drama.

“Didn’t really have any interest in winning it, of course, that would have been a plus.

“For me, it was all about playing the game to the fullest.”

Eamon O’Keefe was banished as a traitor from Slane Castle and, like Divilly, was glad to be cast as a traitor.

“When I was asked, it was called The Traitors, it’s not called The Faithful,” he said.

“It’s the most fun you could have had.

“What are the chances to get an opportunity like that? To go and play a villain on a TV show in a luxurious castle in Slane and just go around and cause a bit of chaos and mayhem.

“It’s just so much fun and I wouldn’t have wanted to play it any other way.”

O’Keefe added that he would not have had “any interest” in playing a faithful and always hoped to give viewers “the villain they could root against”.
