Gardaí are investigating a suspected petrol bomb attack at a vacant property in Tallaght reportedly being considered for asylum accommodation.

Emergency services were called to the fire at St John’s House on High Street in Tallaght, Co Dublin, at around 11.10pm on Tuesday night.

The fire was extinguished shortly after, and no one was injured in the blaze.

A technical examination of the scene has taken place, and Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.

It's understood the site was being considered as a potential accommodation hub for asylum seekers, but the Department of Integration has not confirmed this.

Last month, the Department of Integration confirmed that IPAS was considering an offer of the use of St John’s House in Tallaght as asylum seeker accommodation.

The Department of Integration has been contacted for further comment.
