Sunday's weather: Bright and breezy day with showers tonight

Today

Rain, drizzle and mist will clear quickly northeastwards this morning to leave a bright and breezy day nationwide with sunny spells and scattered showers.

Some of the showers will be heavy with a slight risk of hail and thunder.

Maximum temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees in freshening southwest winds with gales developing along Atlantic coasts.

Tonight

Fairly widespread showers across the country early tonight but these will become increasingly confined to western and northern coastal counties during the night with good clear spells developing.

Turning quite chilly with a patchy ground frost forming by dawn as lowest air temperatures range from 2 to 5 degrees in fresh southwest winds.

Tomorrow

Monday will be a cold and blustery day with sunny spells and scattered showers, some of the showers turning wintry in north Connacht and Ulster.

The best of the dry and bright weather on Monday will be in the south and southeast of the country.

Top temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees in fresh and gusty westerly winds.
