A Dublin based criminal law solicitor has appeared in court charged with assaulting a former colleague last week.

Cahir O’Higgins, who has a practice near the Criminal Courts of Justice complex on Parkgate Street, was granted bail this morning.

Cahir O’Higgins appeared in the dock this morning dressed in a black jacket, blue shirt, khaki trousers and black shoes.

The 46-year-old, whose firm is just a short walk from the courthouse, is accused of assault causing harm to another well-known criminal law solicitor, Stephen O’Mahony, at Wolfe Tone Quay in Dublin city centre on Thursday of last week.

Mr O’Mahony, who worked at Mr O’Higgins’ firm for a number of years before he left to set up his own practice in Dublin last year, wasn’t in court for the brief hearing.

There was no objection to Mr O’Higgins getting bail today, subject to a number of conditions, which weren’t read out before Judge Patricia McNamara.

He is due back in court in April when the DPP is expected to let him know how she decides to proceed with his case.
