The price of going on holiday could soar in the coming years, travel expert Fionn Davenport has predicted.

With the pandemic thought to be in its final months, Mr Davenport, who is a Lonely Planet author, said the ideal time to book a holiday is right now while there are so many deals on offer:

“The big advice - and travel agents will say this to you - is book now for your holiday because obviously, there’s a huge desire to try and grab as many customers as they can frankly,” Mr Davenport told The Anton Savage Show

“So there’s huge incentivised deals. So the cruise companies which are offering cruises at half price, airlines offering discounts - it seems like Ryanair has a sale every second week.

“Once that appetite has been satiated, it’s experts’ opinion that travel will get more expensive for a couple of years. But to what extent that actually is going to be the case, I don’t know.

“Because it’s all pandemic dependent. If demand grows, so availability grows.”

Certainly, internet search engines suggest that a lot of us have been daydreaming about getting away from it all:

“Expedia, the big booking engine, they’re calling 2022 ‘The Year of the Goat’ - which is ‘The Greatest of All Trips’... All of these booking engines are showing massive rises in searches and searches for bucket list trips.

“So it’s like all of a sudden, those countries that you always say, ‘I must get there eventually, I must go to Antarctica one day.’

“Well, 2022 might be that year.”

However, one piece of good news for adventurers is that most will have accumulated large amounts of savings during lockdown:

“Effectively, most people really haven’t done any kind of travelling at all for the last two years. So they have three years worth of savings.

“So let’s say for instance you were going to go on a five grand holiday in 2020, you can now go on a 15 grand holiday. Give or take.”
