Plans for a major overhaul of Dún Laoghaire Shopping Centre have been released. The owners are hoping to attract a new anchor tenant to the south Dublin location.

Coltard intends to invest €10m in the redevelopment - it has sought planning permission to create two new anchor stores on the corner of the property which fronts onto Marine Road and George’s Street.

If the plans are approved by Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, the project is due to be completed during the second quarter of 2017.

The centre reports that footfall is strong between Monday and Friday, but business has struggled on weekends.

The Irish Times reports that Jason Miller of the centre’s property manager, Murphy Mullhall, says that the centre is currently profitable, but that this development would help to attract more business, and to improve its weekend performance.

“It should result in more footfall and earn more money for the centre as a whole,” he said.

Dún Laoghaire Shopping Centre has a yearly rent roll of €2m - Supervalu, Lifestyle Sports and New Look are among its current tenants.
