A woman whose daughter nearly died from an allergic reaction has called for a ban on eating nuts in enclosed spaces. 

Lisa’s daughter, Hallie, is 16 and is allergic to all nuts, eggs, sesame seeds, pollen and dust. 

While on a flight home from Poland recently, an announcement was made asking passengers not to eat nuts and none were sold. 

Unfortunately, one passenger did not hear the announcement or chose to ignore it. 

“A lady behind us proceeded to eat nuts but we didn't know this at the time,” Lisa told Lunchtime Live. 

“But my daughter became quite unwell and had to be injected with her Anapen. 

“Fortunately we had the pen, but if we didn't have it, it would have been a totally different story - she would have died.”

Even though Hallie was injected with her Anapen, the situation was still serious enough that the Captain decided to make an emergency landing. 

“She was after taking her normal medication that morning as well,” Lisa added. 

“So, she was OK after that.” 

Reflecting on the incident, Lisa said she “100%” would support a ban on eating nuts in enclosed spaces, adding that there is very little awareness about how dangerous nuts are to people who are allergic.  

“When you're told somebody can die from such a thing, you kind of think, ‘All right, yeah,’” she said. 

“But it doesn't actually [kick] in until you see what actually can happen.”
