A motorcyclist has been killed in a crash in County Galway.

The 52-year-old man died after he collided with a car on the N17 at Polkeen, Castlegar, shortly before 10pm last night.

The man was brought to University Hospital Galway, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the car was uninjured.

The road is closed this morning for a forensic examination, and diversions are in place.
