The Health Minister says the time has come to amend abortion law in Ireland.

Leo Varadkar says abortion law in Ireland is too restrictive.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has promised to hold a citizens' forum on the issue of abortion if he is re-elected.

Minister Leo Varadkar says he would vote in favour of legalising abortion in the case of fatal foetal abnormality:

"What is in our Constitution currently is too restrictive. It doesn't take account of situations such as fatal foetal abnormalities and it doesn't take account of the health of the mother and the long-term impact on her health, should she continue with the pregnancy.

That's why I think the time has come to amend the 8th amendment."
