Elon Musk’s father has predicted that the row between his son and US President Donald Trump will “fizzle out” and there will be reconciliation between the pair.

Until recently an integral part of Mr Trump’s White House, Mr Musk created the Administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DODGE), slashing billions in spending from the federal budget.

Now a private citizen once again, the Tesla CEO has turned on the man he spent millions of dollars electing to the Presidency.

He has predicted Mr Trump’s economic policies will cause a recession, demanded his impeachment and taunted him about his relationship with the late paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

“Time to drop the really big bomb: Donald Trump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!” he posted on his social media platform X.

With characteristic bombast, the US President did not take the insults lying down.

"The easiest way to save money in our budget, billions and billions of dollars, is to terminate Elon's governmental subsidies and contracts," Mr Trump raged on his own platform, Truth Social.

He also diagnosed him as suffering from “Trump derangement syndrome".

Despite the ferocity of the row, Mr Musk’s father, Errol, predicted the pair’s differences would be resolved.

“It’s simply Elon’s fixation with trying to balance the budget,” he told Newstalk Breakfast

“And not print money against goods not yet produced - that sort of thing.

“So, it will fizzle out; it’s alpha bulls having it out, it’s what happens when you’ve got a bunch of alphas together and leading a herd of whatever it is.”

Mr Musk Snr continued that there would “absolutely” be reconciliation between the pair, comparing it to a family row.

“It happens in families, it happens between brothers, it happens in companies between CEOs and the directors of a business.

“It’s normal as they battle it out to each make their contribution.”

He added that many people would be pleased to realise that billionaires have similar problems to them.

“It’s edifying to know that they also have their difficulties, they’re not smooth operators to just get away and everything is smooth,” he said.

“It’s important for people to see that everyone, even at the top, has the same kind of problems that they are having.”

On his son’s claim that Mr Trump would not have won last year’s election without his support, Mr Musk Snr described it as the pair “throwing barbs at each other”.

“I can’t see Elon actually saying something like that, that’s not his way,” he added.

Mr Musk Snr said the row had “caught me by surprise” but that his son was  “really headstrong” and “detests lying”.

“He tries to always do the right thing,” he said.

“It caused me a lot of difficulty in the past when he was a boy, but yes he was trying to do the right thing.

“Maybe it’s autism or something I don’t know; he’s very determined he’s going to do the right thing.

“And right now he feels he’s doing the right thing.”

Mr Musk Jnr has previously spoken about having been diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome, which he said meant he would "sometimes say or post strange things, but that's just how my brain works".

Since the row broke out, the value of Tesla has dropped by 14%, wiping €134 billion off the value of the company.
