Detectives investigating a New Year's Day assault on a man (24) in Belfast are questioning a suspect.

A 29-year-old man was arrested in the north of the city last night on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and possession of a weapon.

The PSNI say he is in custody and assisting police with their enquiries.

The attack is believed to have taken place in Glencairn Way area, on the city's northside, early Friday morning.
