Liam Farrell’s son has said he is living through his “worst nightmare” ahead of his father's body being reinterred today.
The Leitrim man’s body was exhumed on 10th April on the order of Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan. ahead of a forensic post-mortem examination.
At the time of his death on 20th January 2020, Mr Farrell was 87 years old and a retired farmer.
For some time, his family have had questions about the circumstances of his death.
On The Claire Byrne Show, Brendan Farrell said his feelings are “hard to put into words” ahead of the reinterrment of his father’s body today.
“It's like your worst nightmare,” he explained.
“Having said that, we did call for this and we called for it, you know, before the Serious Crimes Cold Case team was appointed to the case.
“But they have actioned it to see, can they get further clarity as to regards what happened to Daddy that night?”

“We're having a funeral all over again a second time - and I wouldn't wish that on any family,” he said.
“At the same time, this had to be done to further the investigation itself.
“I certainly see it as a positive step; it's a very painful step, but a very positive step.”
'We will not stop'
Mr Farrell added that his father was “such a great man” and “very much loved and known in the locality”.
He described the entire Farrell family as “numbed into a state of shock” but vowed not to give up their quest for the truth.
“We just have to find out at the end of the day what happened to him,” he said.
“And we will not stop till we find out because we have to keep going at it.”
