The Tánaiste Joan Burton says that Irish laws on abortion are a 20th-century solution to the issue.
The Labour Party have launched their plan to repeal the 8th amendment earlier today.
Ms Burton says that doctors and nurses should not have to look at the law ahead of the best interests of the mother and child.
And the Tánaiste again stated her commitment to a referendum on the 8th amendment if returned to government.
It comes after a coalition of 50 groups yesterday called on the next government to hold a referendum on repealing the 8th amendment.
The 'Coalition to Repeal the Eighth Amendment' cited repeated polls, which show the public wants wider access to abortion.
The coalition say they are disappointed by a lack of political will so far, despite repeated polls showing public support for abortion in the case of rape, incest and fatal foetal abnormalities.
