A woman has described it as “just paralysing” to learn that her biological father was in fact a doctor who secretly used his own sperm to impregnate her mother through IVF.

American woman Summer McKesson was suffering from two major health conditions - blood clots and Marfan syndrome - when she decided to get herself a DNA test.

She hoped that the test might give her some insight into many medical conditions.

In fact, it turned her whole life on its head.

“I opened that up and I see that I had seven half-siblings,” Ms McKesson told Lunchtime Live

“I had no idea who they were; seven half-siblings, no idea.

“I grew up with a brother and so that's all I've known."

Ms McKesson continued that the results left her “completely baffled” and wondering if she was adopted or if her late father had a secret family?

She reached out to her siblings but it took them several months to reply.

However, amidst her ongoing health concerns, it was not top priority.

Eventually, one messaged back and explained to her that they had all been coneived because a rogue fertility doctor had used his own sperm, instead of the donor sperm their mothers’ consented to conceiving with.

The revelation meant Ms McKesson’s emotions were “all over the place”.

“Imagine one, finding out that the father you grew up with is not your biological father,” she said.

“And we actually didn't have the best relationship - he had a lot of anger issues, controlling some narcissism stuff.

“So, you wonder if this was part of the reason why that was.

“And then to think you're the product of a crime because he committed a crime against my mother and I'm the product of that.

“Like my Mom did not consent to having sperm donated from a doctor in his 60s.”

Ms McKesson believes his decision is most likely why she is currently living with so many life-threatening conditions.

The realisation was “just paralysing” and she believes she could have hundreds of half-siblings.

It is why she decided to go public with her story.

“He did it for over 20 years,” she said.

“So, there could be a hundred of us out here dating each other or [with] medical issues like mine - both of mine are life-threatening.

“One of them, the life expectancy is in your 40s if you don't know about it - and I'm in my 40s.

“So, a lot of my half-siblings are likely in my 40s and need to know if they have this condition.”
