A man living close to a Limerick estate full of students has said he has “never seen a house trashed so badly” as the one that went viral in a video earlier this week.
People in the video can be seen throwing furniture out the window and there is extensive damage to the property. Gardaí are now using the video as evidence as they investigate the damage.
On Lunchtime Live, local resident Eric Nelligan said the “vast majority” of people on the Castletroy estate are students.
Previously, it was mixed but most non-students have moved out because the students are so rowdy.
“This has been happening for 30 years,” he explained.
“As long as I've been in Castletroy, this has been happening.
“So, it's just a shame when it goes viral and it just brings into disrepute the name of the college, the University of Limerick and obviously reflects very poorly on students.”

Mr Nelligan added that on the night the incident allegedly took place, he was at home and heard a lot of noise, but assumed it was just “the usual parties”.
“When incidents kind of get out of control, the university starts sending patrols around the area,” he said.
“But then after a while, when things calm down again, the patrols stop - so, it kind of comes and goes and flashes.”
Having lived in the area for 30 years, Mr Nelligan said it is something that he is “kind of used to”, but has also caused many families to leave and find a quieter place to live.
“We put up with it, but the families that are stuck in it have all moved out,” he said.
