It’s that time of year again – 100 Days of Walking is back for 2023.

You may still be enjoying that Christmas afterglow with your feet up in front of the fire – but the New Year is almost here, and this is your chance to kickstart it in the best way possible.

You can join the 100 Days of Walking community by setting a target of walking for at least 30 minutes every day for the first 100 days of the year.

Newstalk Breakfast presenter Ciara Kelly is urging everyone to get involved.

“100 Days does feel like a long time on Day One, but it’s amazing how quickly it passes,” she said.

“My favourite thing about 100 Days of Walking is anyone can do it. Old, young, fit, unfit, overweight – none of those things matter because you go at your own pace.

“There’s no distance, no steps and no speed involved.

“100 Days of Walking isn’t about weight loss or beating a time, it’s simply giving yourself half an hour a day and spending it walking.

“It’s free, it’s safe, it’s good for you and it’s a positive thing you can do for yourself every day which builds a healthy habit into your life.”

Ciara said she takes on the challenge every year, “for my head as much as for anything else”.

“It has gotten me through tough times and kept me focused and centred,” she said.

“I know everyone who completes it feels absolutely brilliant about doing it and I know that anyone who starts it and doesn’t manage to cross that finish line in April always says to me that they regret it – so this is your year if that’s you.”
