Three quarters of organisations and large companies in Ireland are considering or already using AI to some degree in their business.

That is according to a new report into the use of artificial intelligence here.

Respondents to the Storm Technology survey stated they used it for improving staff productivity, enhancing customer service and reducing operating costs.

Storm's Roisin McLaughlin said introducing the technology can often lead to disagreements among staff.

“IT leaders are very keen to adopt it but many of them are facing blockers in terms of senior management because they don’t fully understand the potential of the technology,” she said.

“And, obviously, there are concerns and tackling those concerns just requires a bit of thought and often can be done with a partner to work through where the risks lie in your business and how you can use AI ethically.”

The report found 63% of tech businesses here say they will increase their spend on AI this year.

The research from Storm Technology shows almost three fifth of respondents felt they need artificial intelligence to remain competitive in their fields.

Larger companies are planning to spend an average of €436,500 euro on the technology, up from just over €300,000 in 2023.

“One of the main obstacles to productivity is an over reliance on manual processes,” Ms McLaughlin said.

“AI can really help organisations tackle that; it allows them to find clever ways to answer customer queries or automate existing flows and that can pay huge dividends.”

As the use of AI increases, politicians are calling for further regulation of the technology to prevent its misuse.
