Is it possible to get a really good night’s sleep during hot weather?
Many people struggle when temperatures rise and sleep professional Sine Dunne said it is because the human body is designed to need a “slightly cooler core temperature” to be able to fall asleep.
She added that this means heat makes it “extra hard for people”, especially those who are already poor sleepers.
Children, older people and women going through the menopause are especially impacted.
For those struggling, Ms Dunne suggested cooling your bedroom as much as possible before you go to sleep at night.
“If you’re able to open windows in your room and if you are able to create a sort of flow of air, that would be a wonderful thing to do during the day,” she told The Hard Shoulder.
“Put the blinds down; so, the cooler you can keep your room, the easier it’ll be for you at night.”
She added it might be worth checking the immersion as well.
“An immersion can actually heat some of the radiators as well,” she said.
“So, turn all the radiators off at source; it depends on your heating set up.”
