Most of us enjoy that occasional feeling of waking up, looking at the clock and finding out we have another hour or two of sleep left before we have to get up.

One Irish man, however, takes that experience to an extreme.

Johnny Fallon, Strategy Director at Carr Communications, took to Twitter yesterday to settle a debate he has been having with his wife.

He likes to set his alarm every hour from around 2am until 5am, then every 15 minutes until he finally gets up at 6am.

His wife is an insomniac and light sleeper, and - perhaps unsurprisingly - she doesn't like the "unfair" regular alarms.

Johnny did not find many supporters in the hundreds of replies to his viral tweet.

On The Hard Shoulder, he explained why exactly he prefers having so many alarms.

He explained: “If I have my preference… it’s to get up around 6am. I go to bed around 11pm… and like to set an alarm for 2am, another for 3am, another for 4am, another one for 5am, and then every 15 minutes or so until 6am.

“I’m a deep sleeper - I sleep very, very deeply. When my head hits the pillow, I’m out like a light.

“When I fall asleep like that, I wake up the next morning and it’s like I’ve just shut my eyes. I don’t feel like I’ve slept at all.”

As a result, he finds setting alarms on the hour, every hour from 2am to be a real "treat".

He explained: “It just reminds me I have several more hours sleep.

"I wake up and just go straight back into sleep again. I just enjoy that feeling.”

Johnny is keen to stress it's not something he has ever been able to do when there are other people in the room - and it's definitely not something he puts his wife through every night.

He said: “When we got married and started living together, she put an end to me doing that. If I want to treat myself to that, it’s off to the spare room.

“I want to confirm I do not put her through it."

After much debate with his wife about the issue, Johnny finally shared his alarm preference with the world - and it seems "almost the entire planet" does not agree with him.

It seems he'll have to stick with the spare room whenever he wants to set his half dozen early morning alarms.
