Today
Cloudy today and mostly dry at first, but a band of rain will slowly cross the country eastwards.
Rain becoming widespread and persistent around the middle of the day, with some heavy falls in places with a risk of localised flooding. A clearance to isolated showers will follow during the late afternoon and evening, possibly turning wintry on high ground in the east.
Temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees ahead of the rain with strong and gusty southerly winds, but becoming colder with the clearance and winds veering southwesterly and moderating.
Tonight
Friday night will be cold with clearing skies and winds falling light in midland, eastern and northern areas with some frost and icy patches forming.
However, in the south and west of the country, it will become cloudy and any frost will clear after midnight with rain developing in coastal areas.
Lowest temperatures of 1 to 5 degrees.
