A group of Russian and American researchers have successfully discovered new elements that have been added to the Periodic Table.
On December 30th 2015, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) verified and confirmed that the team discovered the numbered elements 115, 117 and 118, while a Japanese research team have been awarded credit for discovering the numbered element 113.
These are the first new elements to be added to the table since 2011, when numbered elements 114 and 116 were added.
The teams must now come up with names for the elements, which can be named after scientists, places, minerals or mythological concepts.
The first proper iteration of the Periodic Table Of Elements was submitted by Russian scientist Dmitri Mendeleev in 1869.
