Varadkar warns people to 'exercise judgement and self-control' with COVID-19 easing

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said the Government will not be afraid to re-introduce coronavirus restrictions if there is a second wave of the virus.

It comes after major changes to the plan for re-opening the economy, with most of normal life able to resume from June 29th.

Pubs, restaurants, gyms, cinemas, hairdressers and barbers will be among those allowed to re-open early.

Mass gatherings will be limited to 50 people indoors and 200 people outdoors - this will rise to 100 and 500 people, respectively in phase four.

Green Party TD says proposed carbon tax 'protects higher earners'

A Green Party TD says the programme for government with Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil does not go far enough to protect the lower paid.

Dublin South-West TD Francis Noel Duffy is opposed to the deal.

He told On The Record that the proposed carbon tax "protects the earners at the higher level".

Detective Garda Colm Horkan has been remembered as "a good man, one of nature’s gentlemen" at his funeral mass in Co Mayo.

Hundreds of Gardaí performed a guard of honour from his home to the church.

Detective Garda Horkan’s remains were carried by his brothers from the family home to St James’ Church.

Members of Castlerea Garda station, who were on duty on Wednesday night when Detective Horkan was killed, performed a guard of honour from the gates of the church.

Meanwhile, flags were flying at half mast across the country on Sunday to pay respects to Detective Garda Colm Horkan.

Woman dies after being attacked with sword in west Dublin

A woman has died after being attacked with a sword in west Dublin.

The incident happened in Blanchardstown just before midday on Sunday.

The woman, aged in her 60s, was assaulted in her own home in the Willow Wood area.

A man, who was known to the victim, has been arrested and is being questioned at Blanchardstown Garda station.

'Technically we can't show to anybody' - Duffy's Circus set to miss 2020 shows

The Irish, family-run circus chain Duffy's Circus says it looks set to miss out on all its planned seasonal shows for this year.

The company was about to open a show in Galway when the first coronavirus restrictions were announced.

Head of the company, David Duffy, told Down to Business the final nail in the coffin was that a circus tent was deemed an indoor event.
