Woman assaulted in Co Wicklow dies from injuries

A woman who was seriously injured following an assault in Co Wicklow last weekend has died in hospital.

Nadine Lott, who was in her 30s, passed away in hospital less than four days after she was attacked in an apartment in Arklow.

Gardaí say that a post mortem examination will determine the course of the investigation.

Whirlpool recalls thousands of washing machines over fire risk

Whirpool is recalling thousands of washing machines amid concerns over a fire risk.

It affects certain Hotpoint and Indesit branded models sold between October 2014 and February last year.

Around 11,000 machines are believed to be impacted in Ireland.

Two people dead following crash in South Dublin

A man and a woman have been killed in a crash in South Dublin.

GSOC has confirmed it is examining the incident as the victims interacted with gardaí shortly before their vehicle left the road.

The crash happened at around 1:30am this morning on Butterfield Avenue in Templeogue when a car left the road collided with a lamppost.

HSE given €50 million extra in funding for key services

The HSE been given an extra €50 million to fund disability services, supports for older people and hospices.

The announcement of the extra provisions from the Department of Health was made as the HSE published its National Service Plan for 2020.

The health service will receive an increase of over €1 billion in its overall budget, bringing the total funding to €17.056 billion.

Smoky coal ban extended to 13 new towns

The smoky coal ban has been extended to all towns with populations of more than 10,000 people around the country.

The announcement was made today by the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment Richard Bruton who said he ban would be place from September next year.

He also said the government would not be introducing a nationwide ban as it would pose a risk of illegal behaviour unless peat, turf and wet wood were also included.
