McDonald: Any suggestion Conor Murphy is holding back information 'entirely wrong'

Mary Lou McDonald has said any suggestion that Sinn Féin's Conor Murphy is holding back information about the murder of Paul Quinn is "entirely wrong".

The Sinn Féin leader was speaking today after Northern Ireland's finance minister apologised and withdrew comments he made about the case over a decade ago.

Mr Quinn was ambushed, beaten and killed by a gang of men near Oram in Co Monaghan in 2007 and the Independent Monitoring Commission has said it believes the IRA was involved in the murder.

PSNI investigating plot to blow up lorry bound for Britain on Brexit day

Police in Northern Ireland say they are investigating an attempt to blow up a lorry due to travel on a ferry to Scotland on Brexit Day.

The PSNI said they were warned about a bomb in a lorry on the Belfast Docks last Friday January 31st.

After carrying searches in the docks area, nothing was found and the ferry was allowed to sail.

Donald Trump brands impeachment trial 'evil and corrupt'

US President Donald Trump held up a copy of The Washington Post with the headline "Trump acquitted" before taking aim at his political rivals in a speech at the White House.

He also called a three-year long "witch hunt" against him "a very unfair situation", adding: "It was evil, it was corrupt, it was dirty cops."

The president was speaking a day after he was cleared of impeachment charges in the US Senate.

Martin: Fianna Fáil's manifesto is "deliberately" modest

The Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has said his party's election manifesto is "deliberately" modest.

He said this is to ensure that there is funding in the case of a downturn.

He was speaking to Ivan Yates, who has been interviewing the different party leaders throughout the campaign.

Ireland hits 'milestone' in connecting 4,000 megawatts of wind energy

The ESB says Ireland has hit a "major milestone" after connecting 4,000 megawatts (MW) of wind energy to the electricity system.

The utility confirmed that it connected its 4,000th MW of wind capacity on Thursday.

It says this is contributing to record levels of renewable generation in recent weeks.
