Ian Bailey arrested after extradition endorsed by High Court

Ian Bailey has been arrested in Dublin in connection with the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier in West Cork in 1996.

Mr Bailey was sentenced in absentia to 25 years in jail by a French court in May.

The High Court here endorsed his extradition today and released him on bail.

State claims 'enormous amount at stake' in Supreme Court appeal against Dwyer ruling

Lawyers for the State claim a decision on the retention and access of mobile phone data could affect the investigation of serious crimes.

The Supreme Court has begun hearing their appeal against a successful legal challenge taken by convicted murderer Graham Dwyer.

Mobile phone data used to track various phones proved crucial in the successful prosecution of Dwyer in 2015.

Motor insurance premiums shot up 62% between 2013 and 2018

Average motor insurance premiums rose by 62% in Ireland between 2013 and 2018.

The First Motor Insurance Report from the Central Bank has found that the average cost of a premium rose from €435 to €706 over the five-year period.

The report examines the last ten years of the motor insurance industry by looking at information contained in the National Claims Information Database.

Two men arrested in connection with murder of homeless man in Cork

Two men have been arrested in connection with the murder of a homeless man in Cork city in October.

Timothy Hourihane died following an assault at Mardyke Walk on October 13th.

Both men are being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be questioned for up to 24 hours.

DSPCA condemns 'barbaric treatment' of 12 greyhounds seized at Dublin Port

12 greyhounds have been seized by Revenue officers in Dublin Port over the weekend.

The animals were being transported in a Spanish registered vehicle in cramped conditions and had no access to food or water.

Paperwork for the dogs examined by DSPCA staff show that they are registered with the Irish Greyhound Stud Book and originate from trainers in Cork, Kerry, Tipperary and Wexford.
