First case of coronavirus confirmed in Northern Ireland

The first case of coronavirus has been confirmed in Northern Ireland.

Health officials say a person who travelled from Italy via Dublin is being treated at a specialist unit.

It's the first confirmed case on the island of Ireland.

Further weather warnings could be issued ahead of Storm Jorge

Met Éireann could issue further weather warnings ahead of the arrival of Storm Jorge this weekend.

An orange wind warning has been issued for seven counties along the west coast from Saturday morning, with gusts of up to 130 kilometres an hour.

Storm Jorge, as named by the Spanish state meteorological agency Aemet, is set to make landfall on Saturday.

Homeless figures show increase of over 500 people in emergency accommodation

10,271 people were in emergency accommodation in January, according to the latest homeless figures from the Department of Housing.

It marks an increase of 540 people from the previous month.

In January, 6,697 adults and 3,574 children were living in emergency accommodation.

Three men arrested, weapons seized after disturbance at NI funeral

Three men have been arrested in Co Tyrone after a disturbance at a funeral.

It happened at a church in the town of Strabane on Thursday morning.

Footage from outside the church showed a large police presence for the funeral on Melmount Road.

A number of weapons - including knives, hatchets and a machete - were seized.

Fianna Fáil says it still believes a rent freeze would be unconstitutional.

The party has held discussions with the Green Party on a range of issues as part of efforts to form a government.

Reports this morning had suggested Fianna Fáil might be willing to look at the option of a short-term rent cap as part of their efforts to reach an agreement.

However, housing spokesperson Darragh O'Brien this afternoon said their stance has not changed from previous legal advice they'd received.
