A 52-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a pensioner in Donegal over three years ago.

Samuel James Clarke of Magheraerrennon, Raphoe appeared before Buncrana District Court earlier.

He was charged with the murder of 67-year-old Seamus Doherty.

The father of four was found dead at his family home in Glenswilly near the village of Churchill in the early hours of June 17th 2012.

He had been strangled.

Clarke was remanded in custody and taken to Castlerea Prison.

He is due to appear before Harristown District Court tomorrow.
