'Bad Sisters' was a winner at the BAFTA awards in the UK on Sunday, taking home two prizes.

Anne-Marie Duff won Best Supporting Actress for her role as Grace in the Apple TV series about an Irish family with murder on their minds.

Duff scooped the prize over Irish actress Fiona Shaw, who was nominated in the same category for science-fiction series 'Andor'.

'Bad Sisters' also won Best Drama Series at the awards ceremony in London.

Writer and star Sharon Horgan said it has been a good year for the Irish.

The ceremony also saw actress Siobhán McSweeney win Best Female Performance in a Comedy Programme for her role as headteacher Sister Michael in 'Derry Girls'.

In her speech she said: "To the people in Derry, thank you for taking me into your hearts and your living rooms."

She also hit out at leaders in Dublin, Stormont and Westminster, adding: "In the words of my beloved Sister Michael, 'it's time they started to wise up'."

The show also took the award for Best Scripted Comedy.

A poignant speech also came from British actress Kate Winslet, who picked up an award for Best Leading Actress for her performance in 'I Am Ruth'.

The drama sees the actress witness her real-life daughter, Mia Threapleton, retreat into herself due to the pressures of social media.

In an emotional speech, Winslet said: "If I could break it in half, I would give the other half to my daughter, we did this together, kiddo."

Actor Ben Whishaw took the gong for Leading Actor for his performance as an under-pressure doctor in 'This Is Going to Hurt'.
