A man says he is being targeted by an online troll for speaking out on violence against women.

Mental health blogger and writer Daragh Fleming said the issue has been ongoing since a comment of his went viral back in 2020.

Mr Fleming previously made headlines last year when he was blackmailed over nude images shared on Snapchat.

He told Lunchtime Live the person trolling him enjoys giving him a hard time.

"It's kind of an ongoing thing and it comes up sometimes more often than other times in the year," he said.

"Essentially there's this person who, since about 2020, has just latched on to me as someone to dislike.

"I've blocked their main profiles on nearly everything but [the person] goes out of their way to make fake profiles; or someone else's giving me trolling or abuse online to retweet and like their post.

"[The person] basically enjoys anyone giving me a hard time online."

Mr Fleming said he knows who the person is.

"It all happened because in 2020 there was a lot of instances of violence against women, which was absolutely awful," he said.

"I tweeted something about it in support and that went somewhat viral, and I guess this person just didn't like the fact that a man's voice had gone viral in that space.

"They just took it on themselves to take time out of their lives to give me abuse whenever possible".

'This person has an issue'

Mr Fleming said the person would often call him "a grifter or saying I'm a men's rights activist".

"I talk a lot about mental health in that space because of my personal experience.

"It feels like this person possibly is dealing with a lot of pain in their own life.

"Maybe some men have treated this person poorly in the past, and as a result has just resentment against men in general".

"The stuff I talk about is very benign and sensical, that we should be trying to prevent men from taking their own lives, I just talk openly about mental health to get people talking about their mental health.

"For some reason this person has an issue with that".

'Obviously something wrong'

Mr Fleming said it is important to call out such abuse.

"I don't like letting these types of people get away with it and feel like they're ryling me or anything," he said.

"So, it's very much like when I see it I call it out, and I make sure that people know that they're being ridiculous.

"For me it points to an issue of there's obviously something wrong and they either can't get or are not seeking the help they need to heal from whatever's hurting them.

"They're taking it out on other people.

"Some people are very vulnerable and other people might get one comment like that and stop doing the work they love doing," he added.

Mr Fleming said he believes 'nothing can really be done'.
