Newly appointed Top Gear host, Chris Evans, has announced a talent search for a new co-host to join him on the new show when it launches in March of next year.

Evans was speaking on his Radio 2 slot this morning where he said that he hopes to receive applications from all over the world and not just the UK.

"We hope that that there's going to be an amazing response to this not just in the UK but around the world."

However, the new host stressed that it wasn't a publicity stunt and that someone wouldn't get the gig just for the sake of it.

He said that candidates needed to have an "appetite, hunger and need" to host the motoring show, "if nobody's good, nobody is going to get the job," Evans said.

Evans asked anyone who wants to appear on the show to make a short video, lasting no longer than 30 seconds, to post on a website.

The Radio 2 host said that the website address will be released on Friday morning.
