A woman has been killed in a road crash in Co Cavan.

The person was struck by a car on the N3 at Lisgrea near Virginia.

It happened at around 7.15am this morning.

Gardaí have closed the road to allow for a forensic examination of the scene and diversions are in place.

The road is expected to remain closed for a number of hours.
