A ten-year-old boy is in a critical condition after he was knocked off his bike by a jeep in County Carlow this afternoon.

Gardaí said it happened in the Ballymartin area of Borris at around 1:30pm.

The boy was airlifted to Temple Street Children's University Hospital where his condition is described as critical.

The scene has been preserved while gardaí carry out a forensic examination this evening.

Investigators are calling for witnesses or anyone with any information to contact them.

They are particularly interested in talking to drivers who were in the area and may have camera footage.
