As many parts of the country continue with the clean-up from recent storms, Newstalk looks at the damage on one of Ireland's most westerly points.

Inishbofin Island, off Cleggan in Galway, is known for award-winning sandy beaches and as a breeding area for many species of birds.

The island has seen a lot of storm damage since Christmas, including the disappearance of its lighthouse and damage to the East Pier.

But following the most recent storms, the island - measuring 5.7 kilometres by 4 kilometres - has taken another beating.

This before shot shows the island's North Beach

This after shot shows where the sea has cut through the natural headland & formed a channel into the island's inland fresh-water lake

This is what the East Pier on the island looked like before
And now the wall has collapsed under the pressure of the water
