A local Councillor in Sligo has pleaded with people visiting the county’s beaches not to park in people’s driveways.
Independent Cllr Marie Casserly said people were “flocking” to Sligo’s beaches over the 12th July weekend.
It all meant that beaches that were usually “very, very quiet” were all of a sudden packed with visitors.
However, Cllr Casserly said this is putting extra pressure on the country’s infrastructure.
“[The beaches are] down country roads; so, I suppose the roads aren't made for huge volumes of traffic - that's the issue,” she explained on Lunchtime Live.
“I've just been asking people to take care not to block driveways.”
Cllr Casserly urged local people to be “tolerant” of visitors to the area, noting that winter is only a few months away.
“Some people, they've decided for lots of different reasons not to go away, to stay at home this year,” she said.
“It might be financial; it might be just that they decide it's easier to stay at home.
“With this weather, it's just great to bring the kids to the beach - it doesn't happen very often.”
For visitors, Cllr Casserly suggested that “have patience” when trying to find a place to park.
“[Don’t] abandon your car in a driveway,” she said.
“Just consider - it's all fine until there's a problem, isn't it?”
