Bank of Ireland has confirmed its Banking 365 website and app are back up and running for many customers after it went offline earlier today.

It happened around 1pm because of an internal "error communicating with the server," according to the bank.

The 365 online website had allowed users to get as far as the login page before saying "This site can’t be reached'.

Bank of Ireland has now posted a statement on X saying the service is back up and running for many customers.

"We're very sorry about the disruption to our online banking today," they said.

"Service has been restored for many customers and we continue to focus on restoring service for all.

"We are working on this as a priority and we apologise for the inconvenience."

Customers have taken to social media to complain about the outage, which is affecting login attempts on all platforms.

"Wow such a regular occurrence....Not good enough but guarantee you still take our monthly fees," one user said on X.

Bank Of Ireland has had a number of IT problems and glitches in recent times, most recently last August.

The glitch saw queues formed at ATMs after people reported seeing and being able to access money in their accounts they did not have before.

The incident also made international headlines around the world.
