Figures show the number of cases worldwide is expected to rise by 75 per cent in just 20 years.

The report's authors say more must be done to prevent cases altogether or to detect them early on.

They say restrictions on alcohol and sugar need to be considered.

Meanwhile, the Irish Cancer Society is urging people to make changes to their diets and lifestyles in order to reduce the risk of developing the disease.

Today is World Cancer Day and the organisation says people can control the risk factors which contribute to cancer such as smoking and drinking too much alcohol.

The group also recommend that increasing physical activities as well eating more fruit and vegetables can help in lowering the chances of developing the disease.
