A woman who saw an advertisement for an AI girlfriend “with no limits” has said the way in which the technology has developed is “so frightening”.

While most people are aware that AI is expected to change the way people do their jobs, fewer realise that it could even have an impact on their personal lives.

On Lunchtime Live, comedian Claire Roche said she had been scrolling through Instagram when an advert popped up that truly shocked her.

“The image is of what I would say would be a very young teenage girl,” she described.

“She has her hands tied above her head with rope, there is rope around her waist.

“She’s wearing a sort of innocent, frilly dress.”

Ms Roche added that, in her view, the AI character was meant to be “trapped”.

“It’s actually depicted in a warehouse which points towards her being kidnapped or held hostage,” she said.

“It’s got graffiti on the walls, a wooden roof and broken windows.

“The text says on top, ‘AI girlfriend with no limits’ - which is so frightening.

“Underneath it tells me ‘Tell me what you want, Sir’.”

Not expecting to see anything like this, Ms Roche said the image was “just shocking”.

“It is depicting and pointing towards the abuse of women, child pornography and it’s just pure, honest to God, hardcore stuff that they’re trying to get people to push into,” she said.

While some have hailed AI’s potential to transform public services, Ms Roche now fears it will take humanity “into a really dark place”.

“Humans are meant to be with humans,” she said.

“We’re meant to be around each other, we’re meant to be out socialising and living proper lives.

“This is putting people into horrendous scenarios.”

Some experts have previously speculated that AI could lead to the end of humanity.
