Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has been found dead in his New York apartment.

The New York Police department says he suffered an "apparent drug overdose".

The 46-year-old won the Academy Award for Best Actor for the 2005 bio-pic Capote and received three Oscar nominations as Best Supporting Actor.

Film Critic James King says he was a gifted actor.
