The attack happened at the Williamstown Halting site in the early hours of Sunday morning and caused the 22-year-old man to be placed in an induced coma.
Another 22-year-old man appeared at a special sitting of Waterford District Court last night charged with assault.
Stephen McDonagh of Ballyboy Road, Kilcormac, Co. Offaly made no reply to the charge.

He's due to appear in court again next Tuesday the 11th of February.
