Fewer people died on our roads in 2015 than almost any other year since records began.

There were 165 fatalities last year, including an average of one a day over Christmas.

The safest year was 2012 when 162 lives were lost.

However there has been an upward trend since then with the death toll rising steadily over the past two years.

The recent bad weather is posing a particular risk at the moment and Brian Farrell from the Road Safety Authority says extra care is needed:
