Being a landlord is now “impossible” and new rights for tenants will mean there is “nobody getting into the rental game”, a landlord has predicted.
From March, the entire country will be designated as a rent pressure zone, which will curtail landlords’ ability to increase the rent paid by tenants in their property.
On Lunchtime Live, Pat, who currently rents out one property, said the rules are skewed in favour of renters.
“Being a landlord in Ireland has just become impossible,” he complained.
“It’s one of the few businesses worth between €400 and €500,000 that you actually have no control over.
“And any business that you have no control over is not a business to be in.”

He personally is looking has “had enough” and is looking to sell.
“There’s going to be nobody getting into the rental game,” he predicted.
“You deal with the RTB, it takes forever.
“You get a problem tenant, they can stay in there for a year without paying rent.. Tenants just rule the property.
“So, it’s not a business that I want to be in.”
