Regular listeners will know that, through SIMS Fertility Clinic, we have been following Lisa and Gary McMahon as they try to have a baby through IVF.

It is estimated that 1 in 7 couples in Ireland will experience difficulties with conceiving.

Lisa has Polycystic Ovaries which is quite common. PCO is a condition where women accumulate eggs but without being able to release them.

The upside of PCO is that patients with this condition usually do succeed in having the family they want, but you do have to be careful with the stimulation drugs because patients with PCO can easily over respond to the drugs.

As a result SIMS have taken a more natural approach with Lisa’s IVF using very low-dose stimulation drugs. Lisa responded well to the Stimulation drugs and subsequently this has triggered an egg release

We’re happy to report that last week SIMS did an egg collection with Lisa. This Saturday we’ll be finding out if any of those eggs have fertilized and if there is an embryo. It’s been an amazing and emotional journey so far. Let’s hope the best is yet to come.

Here's Lisa and Gary with Jonathan and Dr David Walsh from SIMS Fertility Clinic.

Earlier we went to SIMS clinic to look at the amazing technology of EEVA
