125 new positions are to come on-stream at two separate firms in Dublin and Knock in Co. Mayo.

80 new jobs are expected to be created at Ireland West Airport after Ryanair announced three new routes to Eindhoven, Glasgow Prestwick and Kaunas.

They will be rolled out from April next year along with increased frequencies on its London route.

The airline says this growth is part of 1 million extra passengers a year that Ryanair will deliver at the main Irish airports, in a direct response to the government’s decision to scrap the €3 travel tax from April next year.

A Ryanair spokesman said "The scrapping of the travel tax will help restore Ireland's competitiveness and attractiveness to overseas visitors from the UK and Continental Europe in particular".

"Having met with all five of the main Irish airports, and announced new growth for 2014 at Shannon and Knock, we hope to announce further new route and traffic growth plans over the coming weeks" he added.

The Tourism Minister Michael Ring and Tourism Ireland have welcomed the announcement, which is expected to deliver an additional 80,000 passengers a year.

E-commerce boost for Dublin

Meanwhile, 45 new jobs have been announced at an e-commerce firm in Dublin. Gilt says it is creating the software engineering roles at its Platform Innovation Centre on Sir John Rogerson's Quay over the next two years.

The company first established in Ireland in 2011 and currently employs over 150 people at its offices in Limerick and Dublin.

The roles will be created as a result of a new investment by the firm, and the company will also continue to add finance and customer service positions in its Limerick office.

Speaking during a visit to Gilt’s global headquarters in New York, Jobs Minister Richard Bruton said "E-commerce is a major growth sector that we have targeted as part of our plans for jobs and growth, and in recent years we have seen significant progress in this area".

"Gilt is a world-leading and highly innovative company in this sector which established its first European operations in Ireland in 2011, and today’s announcement that it is expanding further with the creation of 45 high-end jobs is great news" he added.
