Luas operator to attend talks to discuss impending strike action

Luas operator - Transdev - have agreed to attend talks at the Workplace Relations Commission in an effort to prevent the threatened stoppage to Luas Services next month.

SIPTU members served notice of action on the company amid a dispute over pay and conditions.

The action, which is due to commence with a work-to-rule on the 6th of February, will see Luas stoppages on the 11th, 12th, 18th and 19th of February.

Transdev confirmed this evening that it will attend the talks at the Workplace Relations Commission.

The operator has stated that some tram drivers are seeking pay increases of up to 54% as part of the row - which it is not in a position to pay.

Transdev Managing Director, Gerry Madden, said in the statement that "we believe the pay and terms and conditions of Luas employees are, and always have been, very favourable. Employee turnover in 2015 was only 2% and half of this was due to retirements".
